In the flex circuit field, single-sided and double-sided flex circuits are typically the norm, but it is possible to create multi-layered flexible circuits with up to six layers. How can these types of flex circuits be used, and, more importantly, are they a better choice for your next project?
Multi-layer flexible circuits are best used when a product requires a very high level of circuit density. If the level of circuit density is too great for a single or double flexible circuit, additional layers will need to be added. These types of flexible circuits can also be used for stronger shielding applications, including EMI/FRI shielding or when dense surface mount assembly is required.
