The Apple rumor mill is never quiet, especially when it comes to one of its powerhouse products – the iPhone. Gizmodo recently publicized a rumor from a source its claims has a strong track record of getting scoops on Apple products.
The rumor is that the iPhone 8 is going to include a 3D Facial Scanner that will allow you to unlock your phone. The second part of the rumor says that the phone will not include a 3D fingerprint scanner. (The facial scanner will replace that security measure.)
According to the article, the 3D scanner will use more data points, which will make it more secure than a fingerprint scanner.
Is the rumor true? Even if not, 3D facial recognition seems like one of those technologies that will get here sooner rather than later as flex circuit boards allow technology companies to pack ever more features and power into their devices!
