Multilayer flexible circuits have three or more conductor layers interconnected by plated through holes. This is the construction of choice when double-sided flex cannot achieve the required circuit density.

A key advantage of multilayer flex over rigid multilayer boards is discontinuous lamination — layers are bonded only in component attachment zones, leaving flex zones unbonded between layers. This achieves multilayer density while retaining dynamic flex capability.

GCA Flex manufactures multilayer flex using adhesiveless KAPTON polyimide constructions. This delivers thinner, more flexible circuits and enables trace and space down to .0015 inch in production. Microvia sizes to .001 inch yield extremely high-density interconnects.
