Type I Flex Circuit
Single-Sided
Flex Circuits
One conductor layer on KAPTON polyimide — the most common and cost-effective flex circuit. Up to 500 million flex cycles for static and dynamic applications.
Single-sided flexible circuits have a single conductor layer of copper on a flexible KAPTON polyimide film. Component termination features are accessible from one side only — the most common and cost-effective construction for both static and dynamic flex applications.
GCA Flex manufactures single-sided circuits with or without coverlayer protection. Holes may be drilled or laser cut to allow component leads to pass through for soldering. Surface mount devices can also be placed directly on the conductor side.
In dynamic applications, properly designed single-sided flex circuits can flex up to 500 million times without failure. This makes them ideal for printer head connections, disk drive actuator arms, folding phone hinges, and any application requiring repeated flex cycles.
Cost-effectiveness is a major advantage. Single conductor layer means lower material cost, fewer process steps, and shorter cycle time versus multilayer constructions — making single-sided flex the first choice when circuit complexity allows.
